These include: head and neck cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, lung and thoracic cancer, solid tumors of the abdomen, prostate cancer, recurrent gynecological cancer, hematologic malignancies, brain tumors, recurring or refractory malignancies, gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) cancer, AIDS malignancies, lymphoma and leukemia.

The Treatment Team

In addition to the multi-specialty physician treatment team, each patient has the benefit of a designated multidisciplinary team of advanced practice nurses, oncology nurses, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, dietitians, home health and hospice specialists. Together with the resources of the hospital, such as spiritual support and educational resources, they provide compassionate and supportive care to our patients.

The Washington University advantage - Research

An added value of cancer treatment at Washington University is the possibility of enrollment in clinical trials. Cancer treatment is a rapidly developing field, with research from molecular oncology, developmental therapeutics and other cancer research centers producing new breakthroughs on a continuous basis.

Depending on the situation, patients may participate in new treatment protocols of several national and regional multidisciplinary cooperative oncology groups, institutional multidisciplinary therapeutic protocols and studies with investigational agents sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. Innovative therapeutic approaches to cancer concentrate on the pharmacology of cell death, immunotherapy and gene therapy.
