Together they treat 500 lung cancer patients annually at the Siteman Cancer Center of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.

The lung transplant program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is among the most active transplant centers in the world. Annually, 55-60 lung transplants are performed, with a cumulative total of more than 1000 transplants since 1988.

They currently utilize minimally invasive or VATS (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery) lobectomies as a standard of care offers lung-sparing outcomes in patients with lung cancer. Other strategies such as sublobar resection and stereotactic radiation are offered in a multidisciplinary manner. Other thoracic operations, such as esophagectomy and thymectomy, are also performed with minimally invasive and novel techniques.
